ENGLISH
Sinu Sans is an open-source humanist sans-serif typeface developed by LJ Design Studios (LDS). It was created as a typographic project inspired by the cultural, historical, and territorial identity of the Alto Sinú subregion, located in the department of Córdoba, in Colombia’s Caribbean region. Its design seeks to reflect and communicate the artistic, human, and cultural richness of the region through a contemporary, accessible, and versatile visual language.
More than a typeface family, Sinu Sans is an initiative aimed at strengthening the graphic representation of Alto Sinú’s cultural expressions through open design and community collaboration. The project is currently under active development and includes the continuous expansion of its character set, technical improvements, and the addition of new features that broaden both its usability and cultural reach.
As part of this vision, Sinu Sans includes an ongoing research effort focused on the development of Karabí, an experimental and non-official indigenous alphabet proposal. This initiative draws inspiration from existing academic studies, research projects, and university-led efforts, with the goal of encouraging further discussion, visibility, and collaboration around written representation, language preservation, and the recognition of the knowledge systems of the region’s Indigenous peoples.
Through an open development model, Sinu Sans aims to become a meeting point between design, culture, education, and identity, fostering participation from designers, researchers, students, and community members interested in contributing to the growth and evolution of the project.
